My hard drive on my linux box is going. It started out by humming at me (NOT a good sign) every now and then, and in the past couple of days it’s moved onto head knocking. That means the drive is getting confused about where it’s reading (a sign of bad parts on the disk), loses its location on the drive platter, and then hits something it shouldn’t.

I knew it would go sooner or later. Now I just need to rsync it to my other drive before it dies so I don’t have to reinstall…

Uptime? Not great, but 68 days and counting and I won’t turn it off for fear spinning down may kill it.

It’s ok - according to Ecclesiastes everything is meaningless anyhow.
