New Year?

Doesn’t it just seem like everything happens at once?

Well, I’ve noticed over the past few days the my headlights flickered every now-and-then, but it was never that big of a deal. Just made me worry. It done did get worse. This morning, I turned on my headlights, they came on for a few seconds, then turned off. It’s both of them, so I know it’s not problems with the bulbs, it’s electrical problems. Parking lights work, blinkers work, just no headlights (or high-beams). So basically, no driving at night until I get it fixed. And because the days are so short, that means driving to and from work, and not much more. Hmmm.

Also, the exhaust system is getting noticeably louder every day, particularly in the catalytic convertor region of the car. So rather than waiting for that to drop on the ground, I really should get it fixed in the next few days. Tow-truck-preventing preventative maintenance.

To top it all off, the rotors are once again a bit warped. My parents took the car in for a $700 brake job this past summer, and I’ve taken in it twice more to get the rotors fixed. Fortunately it’s all been under warranty so far. This will be the third time, and I hope this time they actually replace the rotors rather than just smooth them down again. Because that’s obviously *not* solving the problem.

My car is not the only problem. The hard-drive in one of my computers went ballistic on me the other night. I was sitting here minding my own business when all-of-a-sudden I heard a high-pitched whining noise and I could literally *hear* it spinning. Now granted it’s an old 10 GB drive, but it’s my linux box. If it goes, so does my internet connection temporarily. It seems to be running ok right now (it’s still a bit louder than usual), but I know I should probably order a replacement before things get too out of hand.

So yeah, all my plans to increase my college loan payments? Bumped back.
