Well let’s see. I’ve figured out that I don’t post all that often on the weekends. But some things have happened, so there are some things to say.
First of all, it’s Monday, October 11 - Columbus Day. And where am I? That’s right, I’m at work. For some strange reason we don’t have the day off. I mean, even the people we contract for (NUWC) have the day off, so it’s pretty strange to be here when they’re not there…
One nice thing I found out this morning about working on a holiday is that there’s absolutely _no_ traffic. While it makes for something of a relaxing drive, it also serves as a reminder that almost no one else has to go to work today!
Saturday was a big day. My best friend Adam is all done in the Marine Corps. He received his honorable discharge papers on Saturday, and yesterday he started the long drive out to Texas. I’m excited for him that he’s all done, but I know the feeling of moving on from something and not really knowing where you’re going. It’s the same situation I was in after leaving Taylor. So while I’m sure he’s excited about it, I know there’s probably some trepidation involved as well. Either way, he’s done! It’s been 4 years. Time really does fly.
Last week I put my car in the shop and got the brakes worked on again. They resurfaced one of the rotors, so now the car drives smoothly again. Well, brakes smoothly I should say. It was really annoying hitting the brake and having the steering wheel shudder back and forth. And the best part of it is that it was free! My parents had a brake job done at Midas this past summer, so everything is still under warranty. If it starts acting up again, I will take it back again in a heartbeat.
In the area of sports, the Redsox are going to the ALCS. They swept the Angels (after a tense third game where they blew a 6-1 lead). It was a lot of fun to watch. Bottom of the 10th, 2 out, man on 2nd. The angels switched pitchers, Ortiz came up to bat, swung on the first pitch and hit it out of the park. Walk-off homerun. Very exciting.
The Yankees ended up beating the Twins in 4 games, so we start our series with them on Tuesday at 8:15. Hopefully this time the Sox will be able to pull through and put the curse behind them. They’re playing *so* well. Just keep it up guys. It’s a MAX of 14 more games to take it all.
I guess that’s about it for now. If I think of something else, I’ll be sure to let you know…
So here I am, sitting down in the dungeon (the CSS dept. here at Taylor), waiting for my 2:00 lab to start. Right now I’m listening to Linkin Park, Reanimation. It’s a neat album.
My ankle: It’s getting better slowly. The color is fading now, and I’m walking around fine. It’s still tender and it hurts when I stretch it, but there is definite improvement. It was a pretty bad sprain - it turned purple from my foot to a third of the way up my leg. A word of advice…try to not land on a basketball next time you’re out shooting around…
School: Things are starting to wind down. I have a total of four more projects and three chem labs. One of the projects is coming along well, and we’ll keep banging away on it tonight. One of my labs is today, so come the end of the week, I’ll have three projects and two labs left. Not to mention only four more weeks of school. Wow.
Job: I don’t have a job lined up, but I’m not too anxious about it. My parents will be in the states for about a month this summer, and mid-July we are heading down to Dallas for a wedding. The more that I think about it, I think it would be good for me to spend some time with my parents. So I’m considering hanging out with them, going down to the wedding, and staying in Dallas after the wedding. Seems like an ideal time for me to move. If I don’t have a job lined up at that point, at least I’ll be in the area trying to find a job instead of from a distance.
Chip: Five weeks from graduation, and he just started dating a freshman here. We’ll see how that goes…
